Library Trip: Success!

So, this week we decided to venture to the library again despite last weeks "adventure". Our friends couldn't come this time so we went alone but it was still fun. We got ourselves a library card and took out some Franklin books and a Berenstein Bears book. Mya still wasn't keen on sitting with the other children to listen to the story being read but she was much better behaved than last week and was really good while we sat quietly and read our own stories. She even took part in the craft without me trying to get her to engage. This week we made an owl!

She colored it and stuck the eyes on all by herself and I helped with the gluing. Pretty cute owl, if I do say so myself. The best part of our trip to the library was this: Mya used the bathroom at the library without her potty seat! I was so proud of her! Before we left I explained that she was wearing underwear and she couldn't pee in them, so if she had to go to let me know and we would go to the bathroom there. We just recently put the potty seat on top of the toilet to start getting her used to using the big toilet and she has yet to use the toilet as is. So, when she said she had to go, off to the bathroom we went. Mind you, the pants and underwear (and therefore, shoes!) had to come completely off, but it was still a success and she got lots of kisses afterwards.

Oh, and I also ran into a woman I met one day at work. She was at the library with her son and it was nice to see her again. We got to talking the day I met her and she was wearing a pin that said "ask me about midwifery" so I did (because I'm interested in midwifery and can't seem to find anyone else who is) and I found out about this group she's a part of (Valley Families for Midwifery) and I'm slowly starting to get involved with them also. It was nice to touch base with her again. If anyone's in the Valley and interested in midwifery, there will be an information night at the Kentville Library on Wednesday, April 13th from 6:30pm-8:30pm. Everyone is welcome to come and learn about our current situation.

Then it was back home we went and had lunch, read one of our new stories and had a nap.

I think it was a pretty good day!

Baby Bears

Last week we were invited by friends of ours to go to the library for some sort of children's activity time. There was coloring, reading, and a craft. Sounds like fun, right? Well, sort of. Every other kid there (all Mya's age) understood the concept of structured activities. First we color, then we move over to the reading area and grab a mat to sit on, we listen to the stories, then we move back to the table for craft time. She had her own agenda that day and it didn't really consist of the above mentioned items. Well, it did...I guess...just not in that order. I'm telling myself that it was because she was the only non-daycared child there and she therefore wasn't used to structured activities. At home it's color until I don't feel like it anymore, have a snack, get naked, pick out something to wear, help mom sweep the floor, maybe go for a walk, watch Ellen...all at a leisurely "I-do-what-I-want-when-I want" pace. I don't know if the lady in charge of children time liked us very much but I don't think I have a choice but to keep going back to get Mya used to it.
The craft the kids made that day were bear masks and then they got to read "We're Going On a Bear Hunt" while they all wore their creations. They all looked like a bunch of cute little baby bears!
Wanna see my baby bear?

Cute, eh? I know.

Me again...

It's been a long time since my last post (this is Adam btw), but tonight just felt like the right time. I'm not feeling overly inspired tonight, but I have a few things to talk about.

I'll start with march break. It was great being home with Mya for a whole week and being able to spend some quality time with her and Mabyn. We tried to do stuff every day, even if it wasn't major.

We took a trip to Greenwood Mall (where I had never been), and I saw a ping pong table at Cleve's in the mall, but it was on sale for $100!!! wow!.. If only I had a truck to bring it home I would have.

Anddd.. the toy store in that mall is just AMAZING.. It's a good thing Mabyn was there, because I could have easily spent $150 or more in that store. Last but not least, Mya and I went and checked out some nice fancy new cars while Mabyn was chatting up the lady selling tent trailers (which we'd love to have if we had a car that could tow it). Watching Mya sit in between my legs in the driver's seat of the cars and turning the steering wheel was just too cute :)

We also took a nice little trip to the nearby park at Aldershot Elementary School and Mya loved it.

All in all it was a great week, and I managed to procrastinate doing ANY work, which was just right.

I'm now back at work again, and in my first week back, Mya managed to make me happier to be a father than I had been probably since she was born.

Pulling in the driveway on my way home was such a sublime experience. I looked in the window and saw Mya standing on the back of the chair with a huge smile on my face yelling what I could tell was "daddy! daddy! daddy!" all while keeping a huge smile on her face. I felt so happy looking at her smiling face and only then did I realize how desensitized I had become to leaving her for work nearly every day since she was 2 weeks old, it always just felt normal. But after a week of real fun and becoming attached to her (especially now that she's old enough to realize I'm home and enjoy having me there) I realized that I really miss her when I'm gone to work.

But, knowing she's going to be on that chair smiling, waving and calling out "daddy!" at the end of my day really makes even the tough days seem quick :)

Hopefully my cheezyness hasn't caused too many annoyances, and you'll all tolerate future posts from me, as I'm sure there will be others.

Goodbye.... for now!

10 on Tuesday

So, remember the last time I posted I said that I would do something different the next time? Well, I realized that I had to wait until Tuesday to try it out. It's called "10 on Tuesday" and I think it's basically a way to list 10 things that have been on my mind or 10 things I'd like to share. I totally stole this idea from another blogger, so I can't say I thought this up by myself.

So, here goes!

1. Mya is really good at holding our hands when we go for walks sans stroller. Sometimes we leave the buggy at home to give her a chance to get her little legs moving and we just go around the block but she loves it and she's so good the whole time!

2. Tuesdays have become my least favorite day of the week. Adam gets involved in his computer world on Tuesday and Thursday nights because I tend to work later those nights, but on Tuesday I don't have Grey's Anatomy to distract me.

3. I CANNOT wait to get a haircut! I know I'm kind of a once-a-year-haircut kind of person but it's getting even hard for me to like it. Once I can chop 10 inches and still have something left to work with, it's getting done!

4. This Friday Mya is spending her first weekend at Nana's house and I'm feeling kind of nervous! It's her first weekend overnight anywhere and I know I have to cut the cord sometime but I don't know what I'll do without her here!

5. My parents are moving back to NS later this year and I can't wait!

6. I'm looooooooooving the warm weather and can't wait to break out the summer clothes!

7. I'm totally looking forward to a shopping day in the city with the girls in a couple weeks. I have a list of things I want to look for and can't wait to get away.

8. We still haven't taken down the balloons and streamers from Mya's birthday party. I think it makes the living room look festive and who doesn't want a little festivity in their lives?

9. I scored two pairs of kid sandals for a rockin' 7 bucks today! Love summer steals.

10. I've been thinking about taking Mya to an eye doctor/dentist lately. I wonder how that would go...

Two Years Already!?

Well, that time of year has come by and gone again. Yesterday was Mya's second birthday. I like that she's getting bigger and more independent but I hate that she's getting bigger and more independent. I want her to just stay this size forever. Wouldn't that be great?

So, this year I decided I would make the cake again but instead of a cupcake cake I made an Elmo cake! She kind of has a thing for Elmo so I thought it would go over well. I didn't quite get the reaction I was hoping for from her but I think she enjoyed it nonetheless.

In between baking and cooling the cake we blew up some balloons and hung some streamers. I'm glad we decided to do these things the night before because it took a lot longer than I thought it would.

She got lots of nice presents and had a blast opening them all and playing with her little friends.

Then it was cake time! With a little bit of assistance we blew out the candles and cut into the Elmo.

Time for a thumb break!

After everyone was gone and things had died down a bit we decided to try one some of her new clothes but she was more interested in playing with her new "cutting foods" game.

I hope everyone who came had a good time! And thank goodness I don't have to make another cake until next year!

I think tomorrow I'm going to try a new kind of blog post that I stole from someone else...we'll have to see how that works out!
